October 7th 2020 we in IrisBG was invited by PlantNetwork to talk on "Mapping and new technologies" in the annual Plant Records Meeting. Due to the current situation with travel restrictions and uncertainty, the meeting was held online this year. Thanks to PlantNetwork and especially Rebecca Slack and Jonathan Smith for organising the meeting despite the challenges and putting together an interesting program that explored mapping from various perspectives.
It was really nice to see so many attending the meeting and we hope everyone found it as inspiring as we did!
Øyvind Rustan, our CEO and the founder of IrisBG held the presentation below with live demonstrations in IrisBG and of Web Explorer (Garden Explorer). See the recorded presentation at PlantNetwork.
In the IrisBG software, mapping is an integrated part of the record keeping and you can easily edit and modify both coordinates, locations and data on your plant accessions within the IrisBG software. We do of course also support sync with various other programs, like ArcGIS and GPS loggers. With Web Explorer (aka Garden Explorer) you are also able to share your collection with the public without a lot of double work.
During this presentation we showed examples of Plants and Locations from Oslo Botanical Garden, an example on how you can use Features from the Smithsonian Gardens and how you can set up educational and self-guided Tours from Hortus Botanicus Leiden.
