TRANSCRIPT
Hello everyone and welcome to a new IrisBG tutorial. In this video we will learn how to perform a basic search for records and how you can combine search criteria. In a previous video we looked at how to perform an Express Search and I showed you the main parts of the Accessions screen. If you haven’t already seen that video, I recommend that you watch that before you come back here.
We will stay in the Accessions screen for this example, but if you look closer at the fields in IrisBG you will notice a small circle or a tilde next to the text in some of them. If you see these symbols anywhere in IrisBG you know that you can use it to search for a record.
First, remember to prepare the screen for a new search; always click Clear/New.
I want to find out how many Saxifraga oppositifolia with “Wild” provenance we have in our collection.
The taxon name field here is a drop-down, so you can click and scroll down until you find what you are looking for or you can start typing in the field for it to appear. This list contains scientific names. If you cannot find your taxon name here it is possible to add names yourself, but that’s for another tutorial.
I’ll start typing Saxi… As you can see, we have many Saxifraga, so what you can do is to type in the first letters of the species as well, “oppo”, to narrow down the list. Now, let’s select Provenance. Can you see the small circle here? This is also a drop-down, so you can either start typing or select the Provenance from the menu.
To search, click the Binoculars up here in the toolbar.
The search result is presented as a list with accession numbers here on the left, alongside other information here on the right, such as the Taxon name and Provenance. We found 12 records. You can see the number down here.
We will select one of them by double-clicking on the row. If you got a search result with multiple records like we did here, you can browse through the list using these arrows.
This is the very basics of how to perform a search in IrisBG. Just remember to clear your screen and use one of the fields with a small circle or a tilde as your search criteria. When searching this way, you will only get a result with records that include all of your criterias'. It is also possible to be more specific and combine multiple criteria with Advanced Search, but we will look at that in another tutorial.
Thank you for watching. See you in the next video.
