To get us all focused and tuned into record keeping, prof. Maximilian Weigend from the Nees Institut for biodiversity of plants, University of Bonn opened up the conference program with the keynote speech "Accumulation versus collection – documentation makes a difference". In it he introduced the concept of four different collection values - conservation, scientific research, education, teaching - to guide the creation and documentation of a botanical collection.
The questions the community were asked to discuss
In order to create an interactive conference evolving on discussions within the IrisBG community each presentation on the programme was concluding with a set of questions to be discussed in smaller groups.
- How can record keeping help with mission match?
- How can we optimize collection value for conservation?
- How can we increase collection value to science?
- How can we track genetic integrity of our accessions?
- How can we track genetic diversity of our accessions?
- How can we increase legal certainty for our collections?
